How to Download Twitter (X) Videos on iPhone, Android and PC

A step-by-step guide to saving Twitter/X videos, GIFs and images in original quality on any device — no app, no watermark, no signup.

X (formerly Twitter) has no download button for videos. Screen recording works in a pinch, but it lowers the quality, captures your status bar and can't save GIFs cleanly. The faster way is to grab the original file the tweet points to.

Want to skip the guide? Paste your link into the Twitter Video Downloader and you're done.

What you need

  • The link to a single public tweet — it contains /status/ followed by a number, e.g. https://x.com/user/status/1460323737035677698.
  • Any browser. Nothing to install, no account required.

Profile links, search results and lists won't work, because they don't point to one specific video.

  • In the X app (iPhone or Android): tap the share icon under the post, then Copy link.
  • On a computer: open the post and copy the address from the browser's address bar. You can also click the share icon and choose Copy link.

Both x.com and twitter.com links work, with or without extra parameters like ?s=20.

Open the downloader, paste the link into the box at the top and press Download. The tool reads the tweet and lists every video, GIF and image it contains.

Step 3: Pick a quality

Videos are listed with every resolution X stores — usually from 320p up to 720p or 1080p — highest first, with an estimated file size next to each.

  • Choose 1080p or 720p to keep a clip for editing or watching on a large screen.
  • Choose a lower resolution to share in a chat app or save storage.

If there's no 1080p option, the uploader didn't post the video in 1080p — the best version shown is the best that exists.

Step 4: Save the file

The file downloads straight to your device:

DeviceWhere the file goes
iPhone / iPad (Safari)Files app › Downloads. Open it and tap Share › Save Video to add it to Photos (step-by-step guide).
Android (Chrome)Downloads folder; it also appears in your gallery.
Windows / MacYour browser's default Downloads folder.

Downloading GIFs and images

GIFs: X stores GIFs as short, silent, looping MP4 files, so that's what you'll download — they're sharper and much smaller than a .gif. Use the Twitter GIF Downloader and convert to .gif afterwards only if a site requires it.

Images: every image in the tweet is listed separately and downloads in its original resolution.

Why won't my video download?

  • The account is protected. Only public tweets can be fetched.
  • The tweet was deleted or is age-restricted or withheld in some regions.
  • The link is incomplete. Make sure it contains /status/ and a number — open it in a browser to check that it loads.
  • It's a live broadcast or a Space. These aren't regular video files and aren't supported.

Saving public content for personal viewing is generally fine, but the creator keeps the copyright. Don't re-upload or use someone else's video commercially without permission, and follow X's rules.
